BT vs. RBT: Entry-Level Career Paths at BlueSprig

BlueSprig January 30, 2024

If you’re new to the field of applied behavior analysis (ABA) or just interested in learning more, you might be curious about the distinction between Behavior Technicians (BTs) and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs). For each of our BlueSprig clients, both the BT and RBT play a critical role in delivering ABA therapy treatment.

Understanding ABA therapy will be important in understanding the roles of BTs and RBTs. This type of therapy focuses on the process of behavior change by employing reinforcement techniques to increase or decrease targeted behavior, while also enhancing socialization, communication, learning skills, and other developmental milestones. ABA therapy is widely recognized as the most effective behavioral intervention for people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Behavior Technician Role

A Behavior Technician is an entry-level position, where experience is not required, but a passion for changing the world for children with autism is an absolute must! BlueSprig offers an incredible paid comprehensive training path that fulfills the training required to become a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT). During the training phase you can expect a combination of e-learning courses, live webinars, and hands on training. The RBT training will conclude with a competency assessment conducted by a trainer at your center. Once the required training is completed, you will be eligible to apply for the RBT Certification and the BlueSprig team will support you through the certification process. There are many people to help support your journey to becoming a great RBT, and we’re excited to embark on the journey with you!

Registered Behavior Technician Role

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a paraprofessional certified in behavior analysis. RBTs assist in delivering behavior-analytic services and practice under the direction and close supervision of an RBT Supervisor. In the RBT role, you will provide ABA therapy to BlueSprig clients in a BlueSprig center, homes, or in community settings. As a part of the BlueSprig team, you will receive ongoing training, supervision, and mentorship to further develop your skills. You will also have access to our RBT Career Path program, which offers opportunities for career advancement.
