Kid-Friendly Ways to Celebrate Pride Month

This year for Pride month, BlueSprig has put together different ways for you and your family to celebrate love and identity! This is a great opportunity to teach kids about various ways people identify and love one another. Pride month also allows us to celebrate and educate how to value one’s own voice and the voice of others.

Craft Time

Make craft time colorful this month! The rainbow represents celebrating diversity in the LGBTQIA+ community and is a fun and sensory-friendly project for you and your loved ones. A few ideas include rainbow flags with construction paper, rainbow beaded bracelets, painting cookies, or colorful sidewalk artwork with chalk! If you are looking for more ideas, check out our Pinterest page

Local Events

During June, there is a variety of opportunities for you and your family to support and explore the LGBTQIA+ culture. Communities will often host local family-friendly parades, festivals, 5ks, and fun runs to participate in. Many of these events will include kid-friendly activities, food and drink vendors, and performers!

Read a Book

This month, read an LGBTQIA+ book with your children to learn more about the different identities and love that are represented around the world. Pride-friendly books are a great way for your children to embrace differences and overcome diversity. If you would like a list of kid-friendly LGBTQIA+ books, visit your local library or check out our list here

History of Pride

Take some time with your loved ones to teach the history behind Pride Month. This will help to understand why we celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community during the month of June and to educate on the meaning of the letters used to represent the community.

Dance Party

Celebrate love and identity this month by having a kid-friendly dance party with your family! There are free streaming services, such as Spotify, that have a Pride playlist. Be sure to scan over the music to allow for songs that are appropriate for all ages. Hang rainbow streamers and the rainbow crafts you and your family made this month and dance away!
